Volunteer Fireman of the Year

Volunteer Fireman of the Year

Mark Windham
January 5, 2016

Join us in congratulating Mark Windham, Load Management/Systems Dispatcher Supervisor, for being selected as the Pitt County Rural/Volunteer Fireman of the Year.

Mark’s GUC “family” surprise him with a little treat in honor of his award.

Each of the Volunteer Fire/Rescue Stations in Pitt County vote and select a recipient from their department. Mark was chosen as the Eastern Pines Fireman of the Year. Each department then submits the department's selectee to a committee of individuals who are knowledgeable in the skills and disciplines of firefighting from organizations outside of Pitt County.  Mark was awarded with the overall county recognition during the Pitt County Firefighters Association's annual banquet on January 24th.

Mark has been a very active member of the fire service since high school. A well-written article about Mark's recognition can be found in the online archives of The Daily Reflector.

We'd like to take the opportunity to recognize the following GUC employees for the services they provide to their community volunteer fire stations: Mark Windham (Eastern Pines), George Darden (Red Oak), Josh Owens (Grimesland), Harold Jones (Ayden EMS), Jason Owens (Fountain), Ray Baker (Simpson), Mark Andrews (Grifton), Jason Hardee (Black Jack), Jason Smith (Staton House), Justin Oakes (Grifton), Brian Greer (Simpson), Johnny Vernon (Black Jack), Blake Wingate (Ayden), Chris Hudson (Simpson), Richard Gould (Black Jack), Tracy Elks (Black Jack), Keith Clark (Grimesland), Kevin Ortiz (Pactolus), and Jason Cyphers (Eastern Pines).
