Wesley Asbell / 20 years

Wesley Asbell recently celebrated 20 years of service with GUC.  As an Operator III at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Wesley monitors pumping rates and all aspects of the biological treatment process, as well as collecting samples from different points in the treatment system for testing and analysis.  He has a wide range of science and technical knowledge about the pumps, motors, valves, etc. "I like that my job is never the same two days in a row," said Wesley. "And I work with a great group of people."  Wesley and his wife, Cindy, live in Greenville with their 11-year-old daughter, Caroline. In his free time, Wesley enjoys spending time with his family.

Jeff Sutton / 20 years

Water Resources Systems Supervisor Jeff Sutton recently celebrated 20 years of service with GUC. Jeff is responsible for three crews that inspect, clean, and maintain the gravity sewer lines on our system. He is also responsible for the tracking and documentation needed to meet state requirements for the Collection System Permit that GUC was issued in 2002. "I thank God for all of my coworkers," said Jeff. "I appreciate everyone and have enjoyed the years here and look forward to more." Jeff and his wife, Lynette, have a son, Christopher, who recently graduated from Trinity Christian School. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys fishing, hunting, tending their large garden, and participating in church activities.

Paula Vinciguerra / 20 years

Paula Vinciguerra, Staff Support Specialist in the Meter Section of the Electric Department, handles all of the section's administrative functions, including correspondence and record keeping. She also manages the remote disconnect program and database for reporting; maintains weekly and monthly reports; schedules training for Meter employees; and assists with dispatching as needed. Before joining the Meter Section in 2006, Paula also worked for Station One as well as Stores. For the past 18 months, Paula has served on the Navigate Core Team, setting up the day-to-day activities (like installations and field activities) for the new systems that will impact her section. "I've learned a lot about other departments by serving on the Navigate Team," said Paula, "and I've learned a lot over the past 20 years by working in various roles at GUC. People here are like family to me." In her spare time, Paula enjoys spending time with friends and family, and doing anything that involves water, from the lake to the beach. She also likes to hunt and fish.

Accomplishments

Chris Padgett, Chief Administrative Officer, recently completed the American Public Power Association (APPA) Public Power Manager Certificate Program (PPM). To earn this certificate, students must complete three required courses: Electric Utility Industry; Financial Planning, Budgeting, and Performance; and Strategic Leadership and Performance.

Jonathan Sergeant, Energy Services Officer, has been asked to serve on the task force of the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA). The task force will assist NCSEA in developing the association's value proposition by identifying the critical business needs of its members.

Wade Corbitt, Water Resources Instrument Technician, received his Class 3 North Carolina American Water Works Association and Water Environment Association (AWWA-WEA) Maintenance Technologist Certification. To complete the certification, students attend four classes over four days and take exams on routine preventative maintenance, lubrication, equipment tear down, equipment monitoring, and installation.
