Jeff Byrd Retires

Jeff Byrd Retires

January 31, 2018

Electric Distribution Engineer Jeff Byrd recently retired after 30 years of service with Greenville Utilities. Jeff managed the overall operations of electric distribution that included Supervisors, Crew Leaders, Lineworkers, Line Clearing Crews and several contractors. He also assisted in the department's budgeting process. In addition, Jeff coordinated our mutual aid efforts, which involves public (and sometimes private) utilities assisting one another following natural disasters that cause massive power outages (like the recent assistance we provided to Lakeland Electric in Florida following Hurricane Irma).

"It has been a true honor to serve with you all," he said. "This journey is complete and I have been truly blessed with the opportunity to work with some of the finest people on earth. What has driven me is being part of a group that provides consistent service. When that service is interrupted, I know we have crews capable of giving comfort back to our customers in record time. To those who have worked for me as supervisors over the years, I want to thank you for your partnership, your workmanship, and your friendship."

Jeff has two adult sons, Brinson and Dillon, and a daughter, Amelia. He also has a step-daughter, Anna, with his wife, Tammy. In retirement, Jeff plans to spend more time with his family, tend to his veggie garden, and, he hopes to try his hand at raising cattle. He and Tammy recently built a house on a large plot of land near Sanford, and are learning first-hand from their new neighbors how to raise cattle.

Jeff, you will surely be missed and we wish you the best of luck in retirement!
