Ralph Langley / 30 years

Gas Systems Crew Leader II Ralph Langley recently celebrated 30 years of service with GUC. He supervises a crew of four while installing gas mains for different projects. He and his crew run a variety of equipment, including the directional borer, which bores an underground line without digging up customers’ yards or tearing up streets. “I love working with my team and the Gas Department, we are like one big family,” he said. Every Sunday, Ralph likes to hang out with his six brothers and play horseshoes. Ralph has four grown children and two grandchildren.

Robert Parker / 25 years

Robert Parker, Gas Systems Crew Leader I, recently celebrated 25 years of service with Greenville Utilities. His crew builds and maintains residential and commercial gas meter sets. They also assist with the annual commercial leak survey to make sure all commercial gas lines remain safe, and they assist other Gas crews as needed. In addition, Robert is an Operator at the Liquefied Natural Gas Plant and is certified to wear a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). “I really enjoy what I do,” said Robert. “I got lucky when I came to GUC because it was hard to find a good job at the time in this area. I landed more than a job. I work with a fine group of people in the Gas Department as well as other departments here.” In his free time, Robert enjoys traveling with his family and collecting music. He also likes to cook and try out different types of food and restaurants.

I try to be an encouragement to everyone.” Billy and his wife, Sheryl, will be celebrating their 40th anniversary in June. They enjoy spending time at their place in Bath with their adult daughter, Taylor, and pets, Shiloh and Lady. Billy and Sheryl enjoy serving in their church, Parker’s Chapel, where Billy serves as a Deacon and choir member. They also enjoy mission trips to Cuba through the church.

He joined GUC as a Help Desk Specialist in the IT Department, and is now a Systems Analyst IV responsible for managing the programs for both Human Resources and Finance Departments. Tom fixes computer errors involving timecards, the hiring process, and even communication programs between HR and the rest of GUC. “Here at GUC I enjoy helping people and learning about the people I work with every day,” he said. While Tom loves his job, if he had the opportunity he would work in Meter for a day. “Those guys do really interesting stuff and I would love to see all that goes into that job.” In his free time, Tom loves spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
