MacGregor Downs Transformer Arrives
The week of May 13th was National Infrastructure Week, and the Electric Department just happened to receive a mighty big delivery that week that will help boost our electric system reliability. After almost a month on the road, a 120 MVA transformer arrived at our MacGregor Downs Point of Delivery Substation. Our crews have been busy installing the transformer and testing it out.
Power transformers, which are located inside substations, are a vital part of our electric system. They reduce the electric voltage as it travels from POD substations and ultimately to customers.
The additional transformer capacity at the MacGregor Downs Road POD, combined with the new 230kv South POD on Mills Rd, is a total capacity of 360 MVA. This will allow us to serve our customer load without relying on the Mumford Road POD should it become flooded again.
