Chanel Richardson has been with GUC for seven years and is part of the Electric Department’s Meter Section, which is responsible for approximately 138,724 electric, water, and gas meters on our system. Chanel assists with the department’s administrative functions, including correspondence and record keeping, remote disconnect/connect accounts, and weekly and monthly reports for electric, water, and gas meters. She also assists with dispatching and serves as a point of contact for Meter crews when they are out in the field. 

FUN FACT! Chanel has a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management from East Carolina University and teaches dance fitness at several local health facilities. 

What are your top three favorite things about your job? 
I enjoy being able to help others. I also like solving problems that we run into. It’s like putting puzzle pieces together. I also like talking to and collaborating with other departments at GUC.  

What did you want to be when you were younger?
I wanted to be a pediatrician and an illustrator. I still want to illustrate a children’s book. 

What motivates you to work hard?
My future goals and dreams motivate me to work hard. I always aim to go bigger and go better.  

What was your very first job?
It was a seasonal job. I was a Checker for cargo ships at the North Carolina State Port in Wilmington. 

What is your favorite family or holiday tradition?
My family is big on Christmas. All the cousins, aunts, and uncles cook and hang out at Grandma’s house on Christmas Day. It’s special because it only happens a couple of times a year.  

What would you like us to know about your family?
I was born and raised in Wilmington, NC, and most of my family still live there, except my younger sister who lives in Greensboro. I have a Pomeranian and his name is Snoop.  

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?
My first power would be teleportation. I like to travel and that would make it much easier. I grew up watching the movie Matilda, so I’d also have telekinesis like Matilda.  

What would you do if you won the lottery?
I would make sure my family is taken care of, then I’d invest and travel the world.  

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pizza 

Have you traveled to other countries, and if so, where?
I’d love to travel to every country. So far, I’ve made it to the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico. 

Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies are drawing, calligraphy, and anything crafty. 

What’s your favorite thing to do when you are not at work?
I enjoy traveling and hanging out with family and friends. I also like teaching dance fitness classes, aka Zumba.
