Robert Parker Retires
Robert Parker, Gas Systems Crew Leader I, recently retired after 29 years of service with Greenville Utilities. He started out at GUC as a General Utility Worker in the Gas Department and worked his way to his final position by way of Machine Operator and then Heavy Equipment Operator.
As Systems Crew Leader, Robert and his crew built and maintained residential and commercial gas meter sets. He also assisted with the annual commercial leak survey to make sure all commercial gas lines remain safe and assisted other Gas crews as needed. In addition, Robert was an Operator at the Liquefied Natural Gas Plant and one of the Department staff certified to wear a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
“I really enjoyed the folks I worked with,” said Robert. “I made a family since I’ve been here because we go through everything together – good and bad. It was a long ride to retirement, but it was a good one. I had a lot of great people help me along the way, and I want to thank you all.”
In retirement, Robert plans to spend more time with his large, close-knit family that includes 15 godchildren. He especially enjoys cooking and grilling for his family and friends. Robert also likes to take charge of planning out trips with friends and family. The next trip he’s planning is to Dubai.
Robert, we wish you the very best in retirement!
