Kenneth Daniels has been with GUC as a Meter Technician for 27 years. He started as a Meter Technician I in 1995 and is now a Meter Technician III. He is part of the service team responsible for completing all service-related orders that come in through Credit and Customer Relations as well as the 24/7 standby call rotation. He also helps with dispatch and special projects. Our Meter Section is under the Electric Department and is responsible for 138,724 electric, water, and gas meters on our system.  

Fun fact! Kenneth loves to ride roller coasters, especially with his children. When visiting amusement parks, they ride every single one! 

What motivates you to work hard? Making sure a job is complete, was done safely, and the customer is satisfied. 

What are some of your favorite things about your job? Getting to meet new people. I also enjoy going to different parts of Greenville and working with the community. 

How would you describe your job to a child? I make sure people have electricity. 

What advice do you offer those who are new to the utility industry? Learn as much as you can, especially from those with experience. 

What was your very first job? Other than working in tobacco when I was younger, I worked at National Spinning in Washington, NC. I went to high school during the day and worked third shift during the night. 

Any projects you’re working on that you’d like to share? I’m currently working with the Core Team on the upcoming CCS/CCB upgrade project that begins soon. 

What is your proudest career accomplishment? Going back to school to complete my Associates Degree in Industrial Electrical Technician.  

What did you want to be when you were younger? A mechanic. 

What would you like us to know about your family? My wife, Christy, and I met in high school and have been married 32 years. We have a son, Kendall, who graduates from ECU in December and recently became engaged, and a daughter, MaKenzie, who is a junior at ECU. 

Do you have a favorite family recipe? I like to cook BBQ chicken on the grill using my father-in-law’s barbecue sauce recipe. 

What is your favorite family or holiday tradition? Getting together with my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  

How would your family describe you in just a few words? Hard worker and “Speedy D.” I like to get things done fast so I can have more time to relax. 

What’s your favorite thing to do when not at work? I like to hang out with my family, and especially enjoy going to the movies with them. I also like to fish. 

Do you collect anything or have any hobbies? I like to work in the yard and around the house and watch NASCAR races. 

Have you ever had a nickname? Everyone calls me Kenny D. 

Given a chance, who would you like to be for a day? I’d like to be Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 

Who is your hero? My dad. 

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have? I’d like to have super strength and the ability to fly. 

What three items would you take with you on a deserted island? My wife, water, and food. 

What would you do if you won the lottery? I’d pay off my house, take care of my family, give to my church, and use the rest of it to travel. 

What do you want to accomplish this year? I want to learn as much as I can and apply it to my job. 

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Steak and a baked potato. 

Is there a celebrity you’d like to meet? Mark Harmon. He plays Gibbs on NCIS, my favorite show.
