Gas System Expands to Meet Customers’ Needs
Crews recently furthered GUC’s vision of serving as the foundation of growth for the Greenville region by expanding natural gas service to Ayden-Grifton High School. The school is the latest in Pitt County to request and receive natural gas service.
“Over the past several years, Pitt County Schools has requested that we install natural gas at Ridgewood Elementary, Ayden Elementary, Ayden Middle, Wintergreen Primary, Hope Middle, A.G. Cox Middle E.B. Aycock Middle, and D.H. Conley High School to help them become more efficient and economical with their HVAC systems,” said Durk Tyson, Assistant Director of Natural Gas Systems. “With gas being an efficient heat source, providing a carbon footprint that helps bridge the transition to the next generation of energy, and GUC’s commitment to keeping prices as low as possible, it made sense for them to switch.”
Natural gas has long been known for its efficiency and comfort as a direct source for heating as well as for the convenience and dependability of service through pipelines rather than refillable tanks, such as propane.
Crews had to extend the gas main along Highway 11 in order to reach the school. Several residents along and near the route saw the installation of the new main and reached out to inquire about taking advantage of the new gas main as well. Gas Department staff are working on plans to provide service to them this winter.
