Becky Pope Retires
Becky Pope, IT Applications Manager, is retiring after 27 years with GUC. Becky's role in the Information Technology Department began as a Programmer and has changed over the years as technology transformed.
The most recent adjustment to Becky’s role was in 2022 and has focused more on governance, program management, planning, procurement, and project management. One of her main responsibilities in that role was co-leading the Oracle Customer Cloud Service (CCS) implementation project in which our Customer Care & Billing (CCB) transitioned to the cloud. This project recently won a Customer Excellence Award from industry peers. Becky also helped manage Oracle licenses and vendor contracts related to Oracle and was instrumental in helping with the IT Department’s roadmap, strategic plan, and change control governance.
Becky also served on GUC’s Key Accounts Team since its inception in 2005. Our Key Accounts Managers are certified in their roles by the American Public Power Association and work to retain and nurture long-term relationships with our Key Account customers. These are customers who can have a significant impact on our system.
In addition, Becky was instrumental in the utility industry in a variety of ways. She served on the CS Week planning committee for nine years. CS Week is an international customer service conference serving electric, gas, water, and wastewater utility professionals. Under Becky’s guidance with another multi-year project, GUC received a project implementation award for Best Customer Information System Implementation from CS Week in 2017. She was also one of 39 co-authors for the book, “Leadership Lessons Learned from Our Mentors: Time-Honoured Values that are Shaping the Utility Customer Experience of the Future.”
Becky says that what she's enjoyed most over the years are all the different things she got to work on. “Each day provided many opportunities and challenges, keeping my life and job interesting,” she said. “I also appreciate what GUC has enabled me to accomplish in my career as well as position me and my family for retirement. I’m so happy that I chose GUC over another job offer 27 years ago.”
Becky and her husband, Bob (who is also retired), have two adult children, Ashley and Ryan, son-in-law, Steven, and rescue dog and cat Chuck and JJ, respectively. In retirement, Becky looks forward to caring for and spending more time with her family, including her father-in-law in Georgia and family in Illinois. She also hopes to have more time to learn about other cultures through reading and visiting museums and to enjoy her passion for the Green Bay Packers, cars, and motorsports.
We wish you the very best in retirement, Becky!
