August 2024: Board Notes
The Board of Commissioners recognized our Natural Gas Department for earning the American Public Gas Association (APGA) System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) for a fourth time. Read more about that here.
Commissioners then approved incentives for Boviet Solar Technology to set up shop in the industrial park. The solar panel company will invest nearly $300 million over the next few years and bring 908 jobs to its manufacturing facility. GUC will invest in a peak shaving generator and build a substation to serve the company that will become our largest electric customer.
The Board also approved an agreement with the Town of Grimesland for GUC to provide more sewer capacity to the Town. They also approved acquisition of Grimeland’s force main from the location of a new development along Highway 33 to the connection with GUC’s wastewater collection system. The agreement also allows GUC to explore the possibility of acquiring Grimesland’s entire sewer system over the next 18 months.
Finally, the Board approved purchasing peak shaving generators for our MacGregor Downs point of delivery substation. Those will be used to reduce overall system peaks during times of heavy electric use.
