James Gay Retires

July 31, 2024

James Gay, Meter Supervisor, has retired after 35 years of service with Greenville Utilities.

James supervised the group of Electric Meter Specialists who work exclusively on meters for the Electric Department. They are responsible for the testing, repairing, and calibration of a large volume of single-phase and three-phase meters. They also install the transformer-rated meter equipment for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. They test these services and do load checks using system analyzers. In addition, they install communication devices for industrial customers and co-generation accounts for data retrieval.

Prior to his supervisory role, James worked as a Meter Reader and a Meter Technician in the Electric test shop.

“I enjoyed having a challenging job where I got to do something different almost every day,” said James. “I’ll certainly miss the people I worked with here. I really enjoyed it.”

In retirement, James looks forward to spending more time with his wife and their two daughters and three grandchildren. He also hopes to make more trips to the beach, enjoy more sporting events, and attend his grandson’s baseball games.

Good luck in retirement, James, you will be missed!
