Jeff Cox, Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Instrumentation and Electrical Technician III, has retired with 20 years of service with GUC.  

Jeff started out in the Electric Department in 2004 already having 21 years of electronics experience with several area factories. He worked as an Electric Communications Technician with the Substation section until 2016, when he transferred to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). 

Jeff was part of the WWTP crew responsible for keeping all the mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, communications (like SCADA), and instrumentation systems operable at the Plant, as well as the remote pump stations that send the flow to the treatment plant. They are multi-skilled, with knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, fiber optics, pumps, motors, hydraulics, and pump mechanics.  

In addition to his diplomas and certifications in electromechanics and electrical installation from Pitt Community College, Jeff was also a certified Maintenance Technician from the American Water Works Association.  

“GUC in general has been a great place to work,” said Jeff during his retirement celebration.  “Overall, the people here have made it memorable. Everybody has their own talents that makes our systems a well-oiled machine, and not just here at the Plant, but in all the departments.” 

Jeff and his wife, Anita, have a daughter, Chelsea, son, Jeff, Jr., grandson, Michael, and granddaughter, Brinley. They also own an antique shop in Winterville called The Alley on Cooper. Jeff looks forward to devoting more time to the shop and traveling in their camper, especially to Ocracoke Island.
