Accomplishments

Congratulations to the following Water Treatment Plant (WTP) employees on obtaining certifications from the NC Water Treatment Facility Operator Certification Board. Brad Dunn, Operator II, received his C-Well Certification, and Leaton White, Operator I, received his C- Distribution certification. To obtain these certifications, employees attend Board-approved schools where they study and are tested on a variety of topics including pumps, instrumentation, bacteriology, iron and manganese removal, corrosion control, lab procedures, disinfection, and more. 

Congratulations also to Brian Greer, WTP Maintenance Mechanic III, on receiving his Class 4 NC AWWA-WEA Maintenance Technologist Certification. This certification program is a 4-level voluntary program administered by NC One Water. It is intended to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform maintenance activities successfully according to current professional standards. 

Taylor Miller, IT Systems Analyst I, recently presented at the American Public Power Association’s Cybersecurity and Technology Summit in Cleveland, OH. She co-presented with Tonya Smith of Blue Ally Technology Solutions on transitioning and managing Microsoft 365, including the steps taken by GUC to increase our Microsoft security score.

Congratulations to Customer Contact Representative II Allisyn Sanchez and her husband, Cristian, on the birth of their baby boy, Emilio. 

Sympathies

Our condolences to Gas Systems Crew Leader II Butch Mills, Underground Electric Crew Leader Randy Mills, and Water Resources retiree Jeff Mills on the passing of their father, Mr. Jessie Mills. Mr. Mills was also the grandfather of Customer Relations Senior Administrative Assistant LeAnne Wetherington, and the father-in-law of Customer Contact Representative I Jackie Mills 

Our condolences to Davis Andrews, WTP Maintenance Instrument and Electrician Technician I, on the passing of his grandfather, Mr. Frank Dail.  

Our condolences also to Water Resources Engineering Assistant II Joe Bronsink on the recent passing of his mother, Marilyn Jean Bronsink.

Ms. Fran Kriebel called to compliment Gas Service Specialist I Jacob Roberti for the excellent customer service he demonstrated when cutting on her natural gas service. She said she “gives him a 10+” and that he did a fantastic job.  

Kayla Caviness submitted a thank you letter for Tree Trimmer Crew Leaders Connie McGowan and Matt McLawhorn, along with Tree Trimmers I Jordan Clymer, Ty Price, Will Waggoner, Chase Hudson, Cobie Waters, Josh Greer, and Taylor Braxton for removing a dead tree from their property. She said the team was “very methodical, professional, and left the area clear of debris,” and that “our residents can rest easy knowing the people at GUC make every effort to ensure the power remains uninterrupted.” Kayla went on to say, “we sincerely appreciate your dedication to our community.”  

Public Information Welcomes Intern

Help us welcome Keezia Moona who has recently joined the Public Information Office as Communication Intern.  This is her final year at East Carolina University School of Communications and the School of Political Science. She joins the team with experience in social media curating and magazine design. She looks forward to meeting our GUC teams, learning more about our community, and getting involved in our community outreach programs.
