A Time For Science Expo  
GUC employees participated in the annual A Time for Science/NC Museum of Natural Sciences STEM Expo on October 5th. Electric and Gas both had educational, hands-on demonstrations for more than 350 visitors, many of whom were first timers to the Expo. Thank you to Keezia Moona (Pub Info), Caitlyn McLawhorn (Finance), Ryan Van Scoy (Electric), and Joey Breeden and Alan Cummings (Gas) for representing GUC. 

National Night Out  
GUC was one of many participants of the Greenville Police Department’s National Night Out event, an initiative to build a relationship between the community and local law enforcement. This year it was held on October 3rd at Greenville’s Town Common. There were games, activities, vendors, dancing, a drum circle, and food trucks available for the community to enjoy. Thank you to Erin Walton, Emily Garner, and Keezia Moona (Pub Info), along with Taylor Miller (IT) for representing GUC at this fun-filled event. 

Tennis Ball Drop  
Our Electric Department assisted the J.H. Rose High School ladies’ tennis team with their annual Breast Cancer Ball Drop on October 4th. This event raises money for Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina and for the Liz Upton Student Scholarship Fund. Liz Upton was the school’s tennis coach for many years before succumbing to breast cancer in 2017. Thank you to Calvin Whitehead and Hunter Sparks (Electric) for operating the bucket truck for this event. 

Freeboot Friday 
GUC returned to Freeboot Friday on October 25th and brought a virtual bucket truck driving experience to share with event goers along with GUC-branded giveaways. Thank you to Erin Walton, Melinda Sampson, Keezia Moona, and Emily Garner (Pub Info), along with Caitlyn McLawhorn (Finance), and Paige Wallace (General Manager’s Office), and Eban Kea, Isaiah Bradshaw, and Michelle Edmundson (IT) who helped with the event. 

Better Skills, Better Jobs Fair 
Our Human Resources staff assisted community partners with planning the “Better Skills, Better Jobs Fair” that took place on October 3rd at the Greenville Convention Center. The job fair included around 120 area business and industry partners, including PCC, ECU, apprenticeship programs, and other human resources representatives. Many thanks to the following HR employees for representing GUC on the event planning committee or at the event:Tracy Williams, Leah Herring, Cortney Bazemore, Aracely Smith, Juanita Sims, Teresa Sutton, and Ellarie Ivey 

College of Business Networking Event 
Thank you to Lena Previll and Tracy Williams with HR for representing GUC at the ECU College of Business Networking Event on October 17th 

ECU Kid Zone 
As part of our “Powering the Pirates” partnership with ECU Athletics, GUC is a sponsor of the Kids Zone at ECU home football games. The Kids Zone is an area inside the stadium, near Gate 2, where children can play various games. Public Information staffs a table in the Zone, handing out GUC-branded giveaways and talking with people about our organization. Thank you to Emily Garner and Steve Hawley (Pub Info) for representing us during the October home games. Be sure to stop by our table in the Kids' Zone as the season continues! 

Heart Walk 
Thank you to our GUC American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk team captains, team members, and donors who raised $1,989 for the AHA in October (as of October 29th). The donations go toward the science that can create artificial heart valves, help prevent strokes, and someday find a cure for high blood pressure. Thank you to the following captains for organizing teams: Jeff McCauley (Finance), Todd Cannon (IT), Michelle Edmundson (IT), Linda Clark (Pub Info), LeAnne Wetheringnton (Customer Relations), and Andy Anderson (IT). Thank you also to Seth Shoneman (Energy Services) for handing out GUC-branded giveaways at the event.
