Seven thousand six hundred feet of 4-inch polyethylene (PE) gas pipeline is being extended to serve 33 -homes in Granville Acres subdivision located on Joe Stocks Road, off of NC 43 South.
Gas Distribution Engineer Dillon Wade who oversees new gas construction projects said natural gas pipeline extensions are routine, but this one is particularly special.
“This project is special because it is a new rural location that traditionally has not experienced much growth. The Gas Department will run the pipeline 1.4 miles to serve the subdivision,” he said.
Dillon said a typical main extension does not always extend outside of our current gas system but further saturates the existing service area. This extension came about due to requests of the subdivision developers.
While this project is for the benefit of residential customers, the Gas Department has several anticipated industrial main extensions in the works.
From East Carolina University to Boviet Solar industrial extensions, Dillon said construction projects have steadily grown over the years for the Gas Department.
The Joe Stocks Road extension is an eight-week project, slated to be completed by the end of July.
