Accomplishments

Congratulations to Water Treatment Plant Operator III, Jose Ricca on receiving the Grade 1 Biological Operator Certification from the NC Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission. To obtain this certification, employees must participate in 32-40 contact hours in a board-approved certification school. Exams are then administered by the state and must be passed to complete the process. The Biological exam relates to plant operations, compliance, controls, and regulations.

Condolences

Our condolences are extended to Eban Kea, IT Network Analyst I, on the passing of his mother, Gay Dunn Hartness.

Thank You's

Ms. Chen called to compliment Keith Fisher, Water Resources Systems O/M Supervisor and his crew for doing an outstanding job of getting their water restored. She said everyone worked really hard the whole day and were all very wonderful. She also mentioned “Keith was very patient and apologetic, taking the time to explain what was going on in simple terms.” Overall, she was very appreciative of the crew and Keith for being so kind and patient.

Ms. Smith called to compliment Tree Trimmer Crew Leader Matt McLawhorn along with Tree Trimmers Chase Hudson, Josh Greer, Taylor Braxton, and Bryce Henderson for their professionalism and ease of which they completed their job. She also was “very impressed” with how clean and neat the crew left the area, even picking up yard debris. Overall, she was very appreciative and wanted the crew to know they went “above and beyond” of what she expected.

Mr. Salmon called to thank Karyn Wilson, Gas Staff Support Specialist II, and Gas Systems Technicians Ramsey Convington and Briley Sutton for their response to his call about a natural gas leak at the Greenville Hilton. When speaking to Karyn, he mentioned how he appreciated that “she listened to him, trusted him, and took action quickly.” Overall, he was very appreciative of the response from GUC and for Karyn following up with him to let him know the results of the investigation.

Ms. Lockney called to compliment Gas Service Specialists Carlos Crespo and Jacob Roberti for providing excellent customer service while reconnecting her gas. She mentioned that Carlos and Jacob were “well mannered, very nice, and knowledgeable about their job.” Overall, she was “very pleased” with their professionalism.

A big thank you note was given to the whole Water Resources Department from high school student Zach Cash, the grandson of former Director of Water Resources, Randy Emory. Zach spent a week touring and learning from the Water Resources Department in his effort to search for a career path. He commended the department for “contributing to a cause greater than themselves” and how he takes great comfort knowing that the water infrastructure “rests in your very capable hands.” Although the professionalism of the department is something he greatly appreciated, the kindness he was shown through his time there stuck with him the most. He mentions how his grandfather thought of everyone as family and how it was “very easy to see why.” Zach plans to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and for now, is happy knowing that his grandfather’s legacy “lives on through everyone’s work and in their hearts.”
