Tyrone Moore, Water Resources Systems Operations/Maintenance Crew Leader II, has retired with 33 years of service at GUC.

He managed a crew that primarily replaces water and sewer service pipes and repairs water main breaks. Water mains are the larger pipes that carry water from the Water Treatment Plant to our customers, and service lines/pipes run from the mains to the customers’ homes and businesses.

After graduating from Washington High School, Tyrone worked for the Forest Service in Beaufort County before joining GUC. He began his GUC career at the Wastewater Treatment Plant as a General Utility Worker. Within the first year, he moved to Water Distribution as a Machine Operator and later a Pipe Layer before moving into his final role in 2016.

Tyrone also served on the Lighthouse Steering Team for three years. “It was an honor to represent the Water Department with Lighthouse,” he said.

Two of the things Tyrone said he enjoyed most over the years were service work and helping our customers. He often took the time to explain to customers what his crew was working on. “I take the time to show them and make sure they understand,” he said. “I also enjoy working with the guys. I just like what I do. That’s why I’ve been here as long as I have.”

“I just want to say that I’ve really enjoyed my years here at Greenville Utilities. I can really and truly say that GUC has been good to me and my family. Folks here are not just concerned about the customer, but also those of us who look out for the customer. You can’t have good customer service if you don’t have good people on the job.”

Tyrone, we wish you the best of luck and joy in retirement!
