Service Awards

Adam McRoyAdam McRoy / 25 Years
Adam McRoy, Electric Meter Specialist, celebrated 25 years of service at GUC recently. In his current role he tests, installs, and repairs meters for higher amp load customers (industrial, commercial, and large residential users). He began in the Meter Department as a meter reader, then he moved to service, before finally becoming a specialist. “I like what I do,” Adam said. “I get to do different things every day and troubleshoot, which is something I enjoy.” One of his most memorable moments at GUC, was when he was still a Meter Reader and he and Meter Field Tech II Tony Jordan helped police find robbery suspects. They were riding along near the greenway and saw a boy who had a ripped shirt and looked distressed. They stopped to help and to call the police. Hearing the victim describe the assailants – carrying a pink umbrella – they waited for the police to arrive and went about their day. “We got back in the truck on Beech Street where the greenway comes out at apartments. It was a Miami Vice moment, because we saw two men holding a pink umbrella. We went back to the scene of the crime. The police were still there, and we told them we found the assailants. They made an arrest from information that we supplied. We were later recognized by the Greenville Police Department.”
