In February, the Board of Commissioners voted to approve the Memorandum of Understanding with Green Properties (at Intersect East), which creates a partnership between GUC, ECU, the City of Greenville, Pitt County, and private developers to restore a historic tobacco warehouse next to the 10th Street connector. The restoration includes development of an industrial lab, space for commercial development, business and workforce development, and non-profit operations. Each public entity involved with the project agrees to contribute $150,000 for five years. This financial support is to be used to encourage job creation, research, education, business growth, and workforce development.

The board also voted to transfer money from the gas rate stabilization fund to pay for a $2.5 million shortfall in revenue caused by the surge in natural gas prices and increased demand during the past month’s winter storms. This is what the fund was designed to do. Click here for more information about the natural gas demand and how LNG mitigated further costs. Commissioners will revisit the possible use of the Purchase Gas Adjustment (PGA) in April to recover that money when more financial information is available.

Also, Clif Whitfield, Assistant Regional Engineer with Washington Public Water Supply Section, presented the North Carolina Area Wide Optimization Award (AWOP) - Gold Star Award to the Water Treatment Plant staff. Read more about this award here.
