GUC’s Board of Commissioners recognized three groups at their April 16, 2026, Board Meeting – the Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church for their record donation to the Neighbor to Neighbor program, the Electric Department for winning the APPA Safety Award (Diamond Designation), and the Finance Department’s Purchasing Team for two awards. Commissioners also gave approval for the preliminary FY 2026-27 Budget.
Included in the budget are the following increases:
- 1.9% increase for electric rates ($2.34/month)
- Still lowest electric rate in Pitt County
- Still lower than 12 years ago
- 3.7% increase for water rates ($1.46/month)
- 3.9% increase for sewer rates average ($1.98/month)
- 4% increase for gas rates ($4.41/month)
- 2.7% increase for miscellaneous fees
The average impact to a typical residential customer who receives all four services would be an average increase of $10.19 per month.
The final budget must be approved by the Board in May with final approval by the City Council in June.
