Pirate Fest
GUC employees joined others from our community to help make the annual PirateFest event a success. On April 5th, the PirateFest celebration was held in Downtown Greenville’s Town Common and offered food, art, and entertainment to people of all ages. Some of our employees were on hand to provide information, give prizes, and help with virtual reality bucket truck rides to ensure eventgoers had a fun time at our booth.

Thanks to Caitlyn McLawhorn (Finance), Dell Laster (Gas), Isaiah Bradshaw and Taylor Nethercutt (IT), Renee Gibson (Customer Relations), and Emily Garner, Melinda Sampson, Erin Walton, and Keezia Moona (Public Information) for making GUC's adventure at PirateFest a huge success!

Teacher Executive Institute
On April 8th, teachers with the Pitt County Schools Teacher Executive Institute toured many of GUC's facilities. Thank you to Steve Hawley (Public Information) for acting as tour guide and Matt Edwards (Fleet) for driving the group all day and Lou Norris and Paige Wallace (GMO) for organizing the day, and to each of the operating departments for hosting the teachers throughout the day.

ECU Baseball
GUC was on hand at the East Carolina University baseball game against NC State on April 23rd to show our support for the ECU Pirates. Thank you to Doug Askew (Legal) for handing out GUC swag.

ECU Pigskin Pigout Touch Arrrgh-Truck
Thank you to Bradley Hardee and Jordan Clymer (Electric) and Keezia Moona (Pub Info) for attending ECU’s Pirate Festivities Touch-a-Truck event on April 26th with one of their bucket trucks for children to explore.

Earth Day Event
The Sierra Club Cypress Group and East Carolina Village and Farm Museum hosted an Earth Day event on April 26th. Thank you to Bridget Harmon (Customer Relations) and Melinda Sampson (Pub Info) for sharing information at the event about GUC’s new community solar project.

Career Fairs
Employees were extra busy in March and April sharing career information with students of all ages. Thank you to the following employees for contributing their time to inspire young minds:

  • Pitt County Schools District STEM Night at Lakeforest Elementary: Megan Tillery and Bryce Brinson (WWTP), Julius Patrick and Chad Flannagan (WTP), and Melinda Sampson, Keezia Moona, and Emily Garner (Pub Info)

  • Pitt Community College Spring Career Fair: Aracely Smith and Leah Herring (HR)
  • Belvoir Elementary Career Fair: Joey Dash, David Guy, Daniel Dilda, Bobby Lewis and Jordan Lang (Electric)

  • Pactolus Elementary Career Fair: Jonathan Sergeant (Energy Services)
  • Northwest Elementary Career Fair: Teresa Sutton, Stella Harris, and Juanita Sims (HR)
  • Ridgewood Elementary Career Fair: Leah Herring (HR)
  • Beaufort County Job &  Resource Fair: Aracely Smith, Carrie Peed, Cort Bazemore, and Juanita Sims (HR)

Grow Local
Employees across GUC were also busy participating in the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Grow Local program from April 8th-10th. Middle and high school students throughout the community toured our facilities to learn first-hand about all the careers we have at GUC. Additionally, Allen Watkins (IT) visited Ayden Grifton High School to present to students interested in pursuing a career in IT.
