Kimber Seachris Retires
After 28 years of working with Greenville Utilities, Claims Administrator Kimber Seachris met an important goal that was instilled in her by her mother. "I've always had a goal of retiring at a young age, so I took my mother's advice and began working in a state job at 19," she said.
Kimber started working towards that goal as a Police Officer with the Greenville Police Department. In 1988, she decided to take a safer route by joining GUC as a Dispatcher in Station One. In 1997, Kimber joined the Human Resources Department (known then as Support Services) as a Secretary, and in 2000 she officially landed in her current role.
Over the years, Kimber's responsibilities as Claims Administrator have included investigating accidents and injuries; managing, resolving, and filing insurance claims; serving as Secretary for the former Safety Committee; and safety training (new employee training, First Aid/CPR/AED, supervisor training, incident reporting, defensive driving, and Smith System Driving, to name a few).
"I've figured out that my passion is teaching and helping our employees to understand the importance of safety, especially when it comes to driving," said Kimber. "So I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to come back soon and continue training." Kimber will work part-time for GUC, with a focus on Smith System Driving, distracted driving, and coordinating our CPR and First Aid classes.
Kimber also looks forward to being able to travel more to see family and friends. Her mother lives in Panama, and her son, Loren, currently lives in Uganda doing missionary work and photography for the non-profit, Love Does. Kimber also plans to do more camping, fishing, mountain hiking, drinking coffee on the beach, and singing gospel music at her church.
Congratulations on your retirement, Kimber!
