Carol Colville Retires

Carol Colville, Fleet Staff Support Specialist III, has retired after serving nearly 17 years at Greenville Utilities.

In her role, she created purchase orders for vehicle equipment and trailers and ensured all GUC vehicles had valid tags and inspections. Carol also worked with the Finance Department’s Procurement Team to make sure that bids were put out for fuel purchases. With more than 600 vehicles, trailers, and pieces of equipment under the care of the Fleet division, Carol stayed busy keeping them all street legal.

“I am at the DMV all the time,” Carol said with a laugh. “Keeping up with all the tags and registrations of every vehicle here makes me a regular there.”

Carol also ordered fuel and inventoried the fuel tanks monthly. She even arranged for staff to attend various trainings and travel, reconciled purchase cards, and maintained staff’s safety point count.

One of her most memorable moments was the preparation in advance of Hurricane Matthew.

“Everyone had learned a lesson from the flooding in 1999,” she said. “I wasn’t here for that one, but the next flooding event I saw everyone come together to help temporarily relocate our operations center. I thought that was awesome how everyone helped each other.”

Carol said she enjoys her work. “I enjoy what I do, and the people I work with are great. It’s a good place to work.”

In her retirement, she plans to travel and complete projects around her home.
