After 32 years of dedicated service, Tara Dixon is stepping into her next chapter, retirement.
Starting as a Cashier then moving to Customer Relations in 2004, Tara Dixon advanced to her final GUC chapter in 2023 as Customer Relations Support Analyst III, where she helped generate approximately 85,000 customer bills each month. Her work spanned bill adjustments, investigation of bill inquiries, and overall bill quality control and troubleshooting. She worked in close partnership with the Meter Section and Customer Service teams. Tara also handled the special billing of Eastern Pines’ customers on our sewer system and coincident peak billing for large industrial and medium service accounts, blending analytics with a customer-centered touch.
Prior to that role, Tara was a Customer Contact Representative II, serving on the front line of customer relations by answering phones in the Call Center, helping with website chat support, assisting walk-in customers, processing online and faxed requests, and coordinating new builder requests. Her reach across channels ensured that customers felt heard and helped no matter how they contacted GUC.
"We have so many different customers from so many different backgrounds," she said. "It was just fun learning about other people, especially our customers from other countries."
That same curiosity and drive led Tara to pursue a medical assistant degree from Trident Technical College (Charleston, SC), and an associate in arts from Pitt Community College, while working.
Tara has worked with several of the other Analysts for over 20 years, many of them also starting as Cashiers. “I have worked with them and built friendships, so retirement is going to be different,” she said.
Born and raised in Charleston, SC, she plans to visit often to spend more time with her family and friends. Ultimately, she plans to permanently relocate there. She loves its beauty, fresh seafood, and the many festivals that bring the city to life. For Tara “there is no place like home.”
Her passion for NFL football still surprises people, and she hopes to attend an NFL game or two now that she’ll have more time to travel. She shares her love of travel and shopping with her daughter, Tiera, and with her mother, both of whom live in Greenville.
