GUC employees were busy in November sharing information at career fairs and events in the community. Take a look at where we were:

Energy Careers Workshop 101 (pictured above)

ElectriCities’ brought its new Power Careers Workshop 101 to Pitt County high schools in November. Through this workshop, students learn about public utility careers from retired electric engineer David Causey, who is contracted through ElectriCities to visit high schools in public power communities throughout the state. GUC’s Electric Underground Maintenance Crew Leader Kevin Willoughby joined David at Pitt County high schools, giving the students a demonstration of lineworker tools and talking one-on-one with them about his job. Thank you, Kevin, for sharing your time and knowledge with the students.

C.M. Eppes

GUC was invited to C.M. Eppes Middle School on November 13th to teach students all about the water treatment process. Chad Flannagan with the Water Treatment Plant gave a demonstration to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Thank you, Chad, for sharing your knowledge with the students.

Wintergreen Intermediate 

The Electric Department participated in Wintergreen Intermediate’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math (STEAM) Fair on November 13th. GUC had an interactive booth that taught the children about electric safety. Special thanks to Tyler Nichols and Jeff Oakley for representing GUC.

Stokes Elementary

Thank you to Water Treatment Plant employees Stormi Amendt, Dail Booth, and Brooke Norton for sharing career information and the water treatment process with students at Stokes Elementary on November 16th.

Energy Code Workshop 

Greenville Utilities helped the NC Building Performance Association host this year’s Residential NC Energy Code Workshop in Greenville on November 15th. The main goal of the workshop was to provide information on the state’s new residential energy code requirements that become mandatory on January 1, 2019. Expert instructors provided builders, code officials, and contractors with key energy efficiency and performance code changes, and guidance on cost-effective means to meet and exceed the new code standards. Special thanks to Jonathan Sergeant (Energy services), and Seth Shoneman (Energy Services) who helped host this event.
