Service Awards

 

James Gay / 30 Years

James Gay, Electric Meter Specialist, recently celebrated 30 years of service with Greenville Utilities. James is part a group of specialists who work exclusively on electric meters. They are responsible for the testing, repairing, and calibration of a large volume of single-phase and three-phase meters. They also install the transformer-rated meter equipment for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. They test these services and do load checks using system analyzers. They also install communication devices for industrial customers and co-generation accounts for data retrieval. “I like that my job is challenging and that I do something different almost every day,” said James. “I also enjoy the people I work with here.” James has been married to Tonya for 18 years and has two adult step-daughters, Kendall and Amber. When he’s not at work, he likes to go to the gym, fish and play corn hole. James is also a football fan of the ECU Pirates and the Dallas Cowboys.

 

Julius Patrick / 20 Years

Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Julius Patrick is celebrating 20 years at GUC this month. Julius is responsible for ensuring that all water provided to GUC customers meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water regulations/standards. He supervises the operation and maintenance of the 22.5 million gallons per day plant, as well as the state-certified laboratory, and remote sites that help the plant run smoothly. He is also responsible for compliance monitoring of all drinking water produced and for ensuring adequate water pressure and supply is provided to GUC customers. Julius is very active with the N.C. Waterworks Operators Association (NCWOA) and received a Special Award of Merit in 2011 for his work with the association and an A-Surface Certified Operator of the Year award in 2008. “At the end of the day, it is very rewarding to drive out of the gate knowing that the WTP staff has delivered the highest water quality possible to our customers,” he said. Julius married his high school sweetheart, Linda. Together they have one daughter, Cassidy (14), and a son Tanner (9). In his spare time, Julius enjoys singing with his church choir, traveling, and watching Duke basketball.

Accomplishments

Congratulations to Keith Clark, Water Quality Technician at the Water Treatment Plant, on receiving his Ornamental and Turf Certification from the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The NC Cooperative Extension Services administers the class and exam.

 

Sympathies

Our deepest condolences are extended to Paul Hollingsworth, Electric Substation Lineworker, on the recent passing of his brother, John Mark Hollingsworth.

Our sympathies also go to Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Mechanic Brian Greer on the recent death of his grandmother, Jacquelyn Pollock "Jackie" Carson.

Connie Morris wrote a note complimenting John Sheppard, Senior Gas Service Worker, for his recent assistance on a service call to her home. “John was cordial, knowledgeable and patient,” she wrote.

Renee Wright called to compliment Gas employees Shirley Peele, Justin Oakes, and Alton Hardee for providing outstanding customer service. She said they went above and beyond the call of duty, and that Greenville Utilities continues to hire and train great people.

Bill Bowen of Bowen Cleaners called to express how impressed he was with the service provided by Customer Contact Representative Nathan Johnson. “Nathan was a breath of fresh air to work with,” said Mr. Bowen, “and he has such a great attitude and helped us through the entire process of opening a new location.”

Brenda Thompson called in a compliment for Senior Gas Service Worker John Sheppard. She said there are not enough words to describe how gracious and patient he was with her. “I cannot compliment him enough,” she said.

Susie Burns sent an email complimenting Customer Contact Representative Sandy Woolard. “Sandy helped me open my new account last year, and was just as wonderful when I called today as she was back in 2017,” she wrote. “Sandy was super helpful and very nice. She makes dealing with utilities an easy process. If more people in the world could be as great as she is, we would live in a better place!”

Melissa Brinn called to express her appreciation for the work done by Gas Service Workers Justin Oakes and Gas Systems Technician Tony Richards. She said she was very appreciative of the customer services they provided, and wanted to make sure their supervisor was aware of the wonderful job they did.

Mrs. Herrin called in to compliment Water Resources Systems Maintenance Crew Leader Linwood Smith and Pipe Layers Alvin Davis and Jeffrey Clemons on “outstanding customer service.” She said the crew was very prompt and explained the job very well to her and her husband. She also said the crew was cheerful and professional, and that it made her Christmas.
