April 2022: In The Community
April 2022: In The Community
GUC employees are busy this spring sharing information at career fairs and other events in the communities we serve.
Grow Local
Our Information Technology (IT) and Gas Department employees inspired young minds through the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Grow Local program March 28-April 1. Throughout the week-long event, high school students talked with our employees to learn first-hand about the careers we have at GUC. Todd Cannon, Nelson Bansah, and Taylor Miller with IT visited with students at South Central High School while Durk Tyson, Carl Smith, Freddie Martin, Robby Bright, Dillon Wade, and Eric Phillips in Gas visited with students in the advanced chemistry class at Innovation Early College High School. This is the fourth year the Chamber has organized this valuable program for our community and students.
Teachers’ Executive Institute
On April 5th, teachers with the Pitt County Schools Teacher Executive Institute toured many of GUC’s facilities. Thank you to Linda Clark (Public Information) and Charles Buck (Gas Department), for serving as tour guides, and to each of the operating departments and Human Resources for hosting the teachers throughout the day.
PirateFest
Employees joined others from our community to help make the 15th annual PirateFest event a success on April 9th. PirateFest is a large outdoor celebration in Uptown Greenville offering food, art, and entertainment to people of all ages. Some of our employees were on hand to provide information and give prizes to ensure event goers had a fun time at our booth with our bucket trucks. Lineworkers Calvin Whitehead, Nick Proctor, David Bunch, Jason Smith, Stanley Roberson, and Isaiah Edwards wowed kids and parents with a bird’s-eye view of PirateFest.
Thanks to Eban Kea (IT), Linda Clark (Public Information), Andy Anderson (IT), Carolyn Jones (Customer Relations), Caitlyn McLawhorn (Finance), Deanna Castellow (Water Resources), Lou Norris (General Manager’s Office), Doug Askew (Legal), and Erin Walton (Public Information) for helping to make GUC’s adventure at PirateFest a huge success!
