Teresa Oakley Retires
Teresa Oakley has retired after 20 years of service with Greenville Utilities. Teresa joined GUC in February 2003 as an Administrative Assistant in the Information Technology Department. In 2012, Teresa moved to Human Resources, first as an Administrative Assistant and then as HR Information Systems (HRIS) Analyst in 2016. As HRIS Analyst, Teresa monitored the EBS systems on the backend to ensure that everything worked properly, entered all salary upgrades and new employees into EBS, and handled system upgrades throughout the year.
Additionally, Teresa was heavily involved with the GUC Storm Team, leading the logistics efforts during major weather events for 18 years. She ensured that storm crews and teams, including our visiting mutual aid crews, were taken care of while working.
“The teamwork here during storms - you just don’t see that every day,” said Teresa. “You build a strong team, tell them what’s needed, and they're off and running. I’ve met some fantastic people at GUC over the years. We’ve got our regular family and we’ve got our work family. Even though we retire, our work family is still with us in retirement as friends.”
Teresa looks forward to spending more time with friends and family, including her brother, Wayne Elks. She and her husband, Gene, have a large, blended family: son, Jay Boyd, who owns Bill’s Hotdogs, and his wife, Ashley, with their two girls, Georgia and Norma Jeane; son, Brandon Wall, a Chief Petty Officer at Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, and his wife, Kylee, with their daughter, Hailey; and stepdaughter, Eugenia Carraway, and her husband, Kenneth, with their sons, Zachery and Nathan.
Teresa also looks forward to traveling and spending more time on her hobbies of sewing, embroidery, greenhouse gardening, genealogy, and photography.
Good luck in retirement, Teresa. You will be missed!
