CSI Team Shores Up Building Safety
CSI Team Shores Up Building Safety
A large part of the recent changes made to the safety program here at GUC is providing ways for all employees to be able to voice their concerns about safety. A few months ago, several GUC employees expressed their concerns about workplace shootings and if we were safe from active shooters in our working locations.
The Corporate Safety Initiative (CSI) Program Team set up an ad-hoc committee to take tours of all GUC facilities and speak with employees about their safety and concerns and what they would do in the case of an active shooter. Officers from the Greenville Police Department (GPD) and Pitt County Sheriff’s Office toured along with the committee at some of the sites. Officers and Deputies provided insight into how to make our facilities safer.
Based on input from employees and officers and research performed by the ad hoc committee, GUC is taking the following steps at all GUC locations:
- All internal and external doors with a badge reader will be evaluated to see if they need to remain locked during business hours
- Doorstops will be provided for all doors that do not lock from the inside.
- View Only Access of GUC security cameras will be provided to GPD.
- Employee Separation Notifications will be sent to all employees whenever an employee separates from GUC, whether voluntarily or involuntarily.
- GUC will partner with GPD for tactical training at each GUC location.
There will be more steps taken in the future, some of which may be specific to each site.
The CSI Program Team would like to thank everyone who has reached out and asked questions or provided information about their safety concerns. Together, we can make zero injuries a reality each day.
