A big thank you to Electric crews for traveling to the City of Danville, Virginia, the week of July 4th. They joined crews from four other utilities to assist Danville crews with power restoration following a storm of straight-line winds that caused a lot of system-wide damage. As a community-owned utility, GUC is part of a network of municipal systems that have mutual aid agreements designed to help during urgent situations such as this.
Our crews got the call the evening of Sunday, July 2nd, and hit the road around 4 a.m. Monday with two bucket trucks, a line truck, a pickup truck, and a pole trailer. When they arrived, eight, 3-phase poles were still broken. Our crews returned home the afternoon of July 4th.
Electric employees who assisted with this mutual aid trip included: Billy Clanton, Oscar Meeks, Gavin Smith, Jason Smith, and Calvin Whitehead.
