Inside HR: Looking Back at 2024

Over this past year, we welcomed 32 new employees and promoted 80 current employees! We also said farewell to17 employees who retired with a combined total experience of 449 years of service to GUC. 

Recap on Training in 2024 

The goal of training at GUC is to build a growth mindset and focus on continuous learning and development. Training prepares us to enhance and expand our skills, overcome obstacles, be intentional in our relationships, and stay grounded when our only constant is change.  

Here is a recap of the training we offered in 2024. 

Our Leadership Development training was offered to leaders of all levels in 46 separate workshops consisting of the following topics and number of employees: 

  • Situational Leadership Essentials (7 in Advanced & Fundamentals of Leadership) 
  • Situational Performance Ownership (26 in Leading for Team Members) 
  • Responsible Person (79 in Leading for Team Members) 
  • Situational Leadership Refresher (47 in Advanced & Fundamentals of Leadership) 
  • Situational Coaching (22 in Advanced & Fundamentals of Leadership) 
  • Situational Coaching & Lighthouse (11 in Leading for Team Members) 
  • Communicating with Impact (111 in Advanced & Fundamentals of Leadership) 
  • Leading with DiSC (42 in Advanced & Fundamentals of Leadership) 
  • Leading with Emotional Intelligence (125 in Advanced & Fundamentals of Leadership) 

iLead 
The 2024 iLead Cohort consisted of 14 employees. They met for 14 workshops throughout the year culminating in a presentation of their projects to the Management Team in November. The Management Team unanimously approved implementation of both teams’ projects after seeing the presentations.  The group will be recognized by the Board of Commissioners in December.  

NET  
NET, or New Employee Training, continued this year, introducing our new hires to protocols and procedures at GUC. In 2024, the Training Office facilitated 12 workshops and coordinated 8 facility tours for NET:  

  • Technology at GUC (38 trained) 
  • Workplace DiSC (41 trained) 
  • Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging (42 trained)  
  • Customer Service & Respectful Workplace, includes tour of Control Center (44 trained) 
  • WWTP, LNG Plant, one Electric Substation, and WTP Tours (33 participated) 

Supervisor’s Toolkit  
The HRBPs and Training Office held 4 Supervisor’s Toolkit sessions with 143 leaders. The sessions featured the most critical topics (i.e. FMLA, ADA, harassment, and diversity). Two classes were offered in the Spring and two in the Fall to provide attendance flexibility. 

Customer Service 
A new customer service class was developed this year entitled, “Excellence Unlocked.” The course was delivered to 25 Operations Support employees. Carrie Peed, Organizational Development and Training Manager, is working with Customer Relations Team Leads to further develop this course for 2025, so stay tuned for more details on this.
