Mark Howery Retires
Mark Howery, Electric Troubleshooter Crew Leader, recently retired with almost 28 years of service with Greenville Utilities. Mark was responsible for one of our Troubleshooter Crews that provide 24/7 response to electric system emergencies on a weekly rotation. During regular hours, they perform small-scale construction, maintenance, and repairs. They’re also the ones who are first on the scene when there is a problem.
All trouble calls go through Troubleshooter crews like Mark’s. They go to the location, evaluate the problem, and most often can make repairs. For more serious cases, they determine which crews and equipment are needed.
Mark was also instrumental in the public power industry, serving not only as a member and coach of GUC’s lineman rodeo team (for state and national events), but as a judge and planning committee member. He also taught line work safety classes across the state.
“I really enjoyed doing power line work, especially in trouble shooting,” said Mark. “Every call was different, and we’ve got to know with 100% certainty what’s wrong in order to prevent the customer from having problems again. I’m going to miss the guys I worked with, but we’ll keep in touch. They kept me updated during the recent lineworker rodeo, and that was nice.”
Mark and his wife, Linda, live in Ayden. Their daughter, Brianna, is expecting her first child, and Mark is excited about spending more time with all of them. He and Linda have already started travelling to see friends and family. Mark will also be busy with his gun shop, “Marks Little Gun Shop,” and restoring his 1969 Chevy C10 pickup. “I enjoy being home more but am also working just as hard as ever, if not harder.”
Enjoy retirement, Mark!
