Grow Local
On March 2-4, GUC welcomed 190 students from across Pitt County Schools to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Water Treatment Plant, Liquefied Natural Gas Plant, an Electric Substation, and the Electric Lineman Practice Field, while the IT Department visited students at their schools to teach them about how information technology helps GUC provides life-sustaining services to the Greater Greenville area.

GUC partnered with the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce for its Grow Local initiative to host students from North Pitt High School, D.H. Conley High School, Farmville Central High School, Wellcome Middle School, and A.G. Cox Middle School. GUC staff spent a week guiding students through different facilities and career paths that GUC offers.

Chicod School Career Fair

Tradesformers Parent Night
Lena Previll and Juanita Sims (HR), and Jacob Swink and Doug Boone (Electric) represented GUC at the Tradesformers Parent night at J.H. Rose High School on March 3rd. This event is designed to inform parents of what the Tradesformers program is and how their child can participate if they are interested in learning a trade. Tradesformers is a youth apprenticeship program designed to connect high school students with growing industry trades in our area. Students who join this program gain on-the-job training and related classroom instruction while also earning a base pay rate and learning valuable skills to advance in their field of interest. 

Chicod School Career Fair
Tyler Nichols (Electric), Ryan Van Scoy (Electric), and Tracy Williams (HR) attended Chicod School’s Career Fair on March 6th. Students learned about the diverse career options at GUC while also exploring a variety of other careers to get a better idea of what they may want to do in the future.

Pitt Community College Career Presentations
Lee Ausbon, Jay Pigford, and Hunter Forrest (Electric), Tony Richards (Gas), and Juanita Sims and Lena Previll (HR), participated in two career presentations at Pitt Community College on March 10th. Speaking to both high school and college students, they shared insights and personal experiences on the variety of career options here at GUC.

Chamber Leadership Institute
On March 11th, GUC’s Wastewater Treatment Plant staff hosted a tour for the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Institute class of 2026. Fifteen community and business leaders were shown how wastewater is treated and how the WWTP works as environmental stewards to Greenville and surrounding areas.

Ridgewood Elementary STEAM Night
Jonathan Sergeant and Lee Eakes (Energy Services) attended Ridgewood Elementary’s STEAM Night on March 12th. While there, students got to participate in hands-on activities that included building, creating, and overall exploring all the ways in which Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) can be used.

Bethel School Career Fair
Stella Harris and Aracely Smith (HR) attended Bethel School’s Career Fair on March 13th. Students learned about the diverse career options at GUC.

ECU College of Business
Aracely Smith and Leah Herring (HR) represented GUC at the ECU College of Business Networking event on March 26th. This event helps students and businesses connect and build relationships.   

ECU Continuing and Professional Education – AI Conference
Taylor Nethercutt (IT) and Andy Anderson (GMO) represented GUC at ECU’s Industry Artificial Intelligence (AI) Perspectives Conference held March 17 and 18. Taylor participated in a panel focused on preparing employees for AI, while Andy participated in a panel discussing how to address AI infrastructure, data management and trust.

ECU Society of Human Resources Management
GUC’s Human Resources Department hosted a group of 18 ECU Society of Human Resources Management students the morning of March 27th. They discussed career paths in the HR field and held a Q&A session.
