Ronnie Staton Retires
Master Mechanic Ronnie Staton recently retired after almost 37 years of service with GUC. Ronnie worked on the Fleet Maintenance team, or Garage, a section of our Finance Department. They are responsible for the routine maintenance and servicing of GUC’s fleet, which also includes “in servicing” of new vehicles and equipment (logo decals, safety outfitting, etc.). Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Ronnie and the team, GUC trucks, trailers, and equipment are being kept in top-notch shape.
Ronnie shared what he likes most about his job. “It’s not like being a mechanic at a dealership where you do the same thing every day,” he said. “We have lots of different vehicles and types of equipment to work on. I especially enjoyed working on hydraulics, like piercing tools and bucket and line trucks. I liked that it was something different all the time.”
Originally from Fountain, Ronnie worked in the auto mechanics field for seven years in Farmville before joining GUC’s Fleet team. He recalls that early in his career here, part of their job was to sand down every new vehicle and paint it with the GUC colors. “It’s odd to think that we repainted brand new vehicles, but that was the thing to do at the time,” he said. “It’s nice to reflect back on it all. It’s like family here. I’ll never forget that GUC really looked out for those of us who lost everything during Hurricane Floyd in 1999. I’m going to miss everyone I work with and seeing everyone come through here.
Ronnie looks forward to spending more time with his wife, Carolyn, and their growing family who live in the Greenville area (two adult children, Ronta and Iesha, and three grandkids). He also looks forward to spending more time with his mother, playing the guitar, and RC racing (remote control cars).
Ronnie, you will be missed in retirement!
