Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Coordinator
May 26, 2017

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Coordinator Chris Hill stays active both inside and outside of Greenville Utilities. Chris has been with GUC for three years and is responsible for the Plant's daily operations and the supervision of 11 Operators.

"Every day presents different challenges while trying to improve our environment by treating and releasing a high quality effluent back to the river," Chris said.

Our Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) has a permit to treat up to 17.5 million gallons of wastewater per day, and treats an average of 11.5 million gallons a day. Along with being the Operations Coordinator, Chris also holds the title of Backup Operator Responsible-In-Charge (ORC). The ORC (WWTP Superintendent Jason Manning) is considered by the State regulatory agencies to be the person responsible for ensuring that wastewater is treated to meet or exceed all standards, so Chris serves as Jason's backup in this role.

In addition to his work load, Chris recently graduated from the 2017 Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program, and was recently accepted into the iLead Program here at GUC. Both of these 10-month long programs include intensive leadership classes, community tours, and group projects to help participants improve their leadership skills.

Before coming to GUC, Chris worked for the City of Kinston for 15 years and held several different titles including WWTP Operator, Residuals Management Coordinator, Project Coordinator, and Operations Manager. He received an A.S. degree from Lenoir Community College before obtaining his B.S. degree in Natural Resources from North Carolina State University.

Born and raised in Kinston, Chris and his wife, Tiffannie, still live there with three children ranging from 3 to 14 years old. In his spare time, Chris enjoys spending time with family, fishing, and attending Carolina Hurricanes hockey games.

In addition, Chris has also played the fiddle since he was 7-years-old and has been a member of a bluegrass band, Grass Cats, since 1997. The band has had four No. 1 songs on the Bluegrass Unlimited Survey and performs all over, including overseas in Ireland.

Chris is certainly involved with a lot of activities at and away from work. His hard work and dedication at the Wastewater Treatment Plant are greatly appreciated.
