Daniel McLawhorn - 25 Years
Daniel McLawhorn, Overhead Electric Service Crew Leader, recently celebrated 25 years of service with GUC. Daniel began his career with GUC as a Meter Reader and was later promoted to Electric Construction Mechanic, Line Truck Operator, and OH Lineworker. He began his current position in 2010 and has four others on his crew. "I enjoy being outside and working with the public," he said. "It's nice to be able to do something different each day, and GUC is a good company to work for." He and his wife, Hope, have been married 33 years and have three grown children (sons Justin and Matthew who also work at GUC, and daughter Taylor), along with one baby grandson, Bentley. Daniel enjoys hunting, fishing, yard work, and spending time with his family. He also does side work in construction and landscaping.
Becky Pope - 20 Years
Becky Pope, Information Technology Applications Manager, recently celebrated 20 years of service with Greenville Utilities. Becky's main responsibility is to oversee the following GUC Oracle applications: Customer Care & Billing (CC&B), Mobile Workforce Management (MWM), Oracle Utility Customer Self Service (OUCSS), and Oracle Utility Analytics (OUA). She manages a team of three that ensures our internal and external customers are well taken care of with reliable systems. Becky says that what she's enjoyed most over the years are all the different things she gets to work on every day. "I also enjoy the people here and the organization as a whole," she said. In her spare time, Becky likes to focus on her family. She and her husband, Bob, have two adult children, Ashley and Ryan. She also enjoys reading, traveling, museums, and motorsports.
Ken Woodson - 20 Years
Water Treatment Plant Operator Ken Woodson recently celebrated 20 years with Greenville Utilities. Ken began his career with GUC as a CAD Specialist in the Water Resources Department before making his way to the Water Treatment Plant. Ken and the other Operators are responsible for regulating the treatment process by continuously monitoring and testing the water as it comes in from the Tar River and makes its way through the plant. They make adjustments to the process as needed, and treat an average of 12.6 million gallons a day. "GUC is one of the best companies in the area to work for," said Ken. "I've always been proud to say I work here." In his spare time, Ken mostly enjoys golfing and cooking out with friends.

Accomplishments
Congratulations to Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Building Maintenance Technician Tripp Morgan and WTP Lead Operator Gary Shelton on receiving their Class 1 Maintenance Technologist Certifications from the North Carolina American Water Works Association — Water Environment Association (NC AWWA-WEA). This certification shows that they completed Class 1 instruction and passed the certification exam. Class 1 covers terminology and principles of preventive maintenance.
Congratulations to the following Water Treatment Plant (WTP) employees on obtaining certifications from the NC Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board. Ryan Gregory, Lead Operator, along with WTP Operator III Chris Earls and Brian Shannon, received their B-Well Certifications. Brooks Nobles, WTP Operator I, received his B-Surface certification, and Ken Woodson, WTP Operator III, received his C-Well certification. To obtain these certifications, employees attended weeklong schools in Raleigh/Morganton where they studied and were tested on a variety of topics including pumps, instrumentation, bacteriology, iron and manganese removal, corrosion control, lab procedures, disinfection, and more.

"I would like to send a shout out to Mr. Leon for going above and beyond to get our power restored," she said. "It's the hard working men and women who keep the lights and air going, so thank you Leon and all of the hardworking folks at GUC!"
Kate Whitney called to express her appreciation for the wonderful customer service provided by Gas Systems Crew Leader I William Morning. William responded to a gas leak near Ms. Whitney's place of employment. "I feel he went above and beyond, and I really appreciate it," she said.
