July 2017 In The Community
A Time For Science
Many hands and lots of planning went in to making our "It's Electric!" exhibit for the A Time For Science's GO-Science Center in Uptown Greenville. The exhibit was all about the creation, delivery, and smart use of electricity, and ran from May through July.
Starting in May, kids and adults were able to get a feel for the amount of physical energy needed to power different types of light bulbs through our brand new Power Bike. The lightbulb display was built by Ethan Hawley, Boy Scout from Troop 46, as part of his Eagle Scout project. The Power Bike will also be used at other community events as way for us to share our energy services communications. Thank you to Ken Wade and Vann Stephenson (Electric Department) for their assistance with the Power Bike planning and design.
As part of our "It's Electric!" exhibit, Tyler Nichols and Will Spencer (Electric Department) gave a PowerTown safety demonstration one Saturday morning (left). During the same Saturday event, Steve Hawley, Emily Garner, and Anna Hinton (Public Information Office), gave kids and adults the chance to have their photo taken while dressed like a lineman (above).
A big thank you also goes to Brian Baker, Earl Harris, Mark Howery, and David Guy (Electric Department) for designing and installing all of the lineworker displays that showcased parts of an electric pole as well as the 50 pounds of gear worn by line workers.
