Lisa Johnson / 20 Years
Senior Administrative Assistant Lisa Johnson has celebrated 20 years with Greenville Utilities in the Gas Department. Lisa oversees the administrative team of three by managing the overall office operations, working closely with the department director and engineering staff, building positive relationships with contractors and customers, and working directly with other departments on gas-related projects. She also works closely with the Public Information Office to carry out GUC’s Pipeline Public Awareness Plan and all other communications involving the Gas Department. “It says a lot about a company when you have people employed for 20, 30, and 40 years,” she said. “Of course, I enjoy the people, but I love the atmosphere of our department.” When she is not at work, you can find Lisa playing World of WarCraft or spending time with her dogs and husband, Tyrell, who is an Operator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Cliff Cahoon / 20 Years
Water Resources Construction/Contracts Engineer Cliff Cahoon, PE, PLS, is celebrating 20 years at GUC this month. He is responsible for engineering design review, state permitting, and field inspection of projects installed by developers. Cliff and his team work to ensure that projects constructed by outside contractors for residential and commercial developments adhere to the standards of the state and GUC. Cliff also assists in long-range planning for the water/sewer distribution and collections system, coordinating various aspects of requested system extensions. “In my position, it’s rewarding to work closely with private development in the planning and construction of the Greenville area growth,” he said. “I’m thankful and proud to be a member of the GUC Team.” Cliff and his wife, Cathy, have been married for 30 years and have a daughter Ellen (19) who attends UNC-Charlotte. In his free time, he enjoys many different outdoor activities such as hunting, target shooting, fishing, and yard work.
Jesse Powers / 20 Years
Jesse Powers, Wastewater Treatment Plant Instrumentation Technician II, recently celebrated 20 years of service with Greenville Utilities. Jesse is part of the team responsible for keeping all of the mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation systems operable at the WWTP, as well as the 39 remote pump stations that send the flow to the treatment plant. They are multi-skilled, “jacks of all trades,” with knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, pumps, motors, hydraulics, and pump mechanics. “In this field, you have to be committed to lifelong learning, and GUC provides ample opportunities for training on new technologies,” he said. “I appreciate that.” Jesse and his wife, Vickie, have been married 30 years and have two children, Jesse IV (25) and Galen (22). In his free time, Jesse stays busy with restoring and maintaining two classic Pontiacs, fishing, and enjoying family vacations at the beach.

Accomplishments
Please join us in congratulating Water Treatment Plant Operator Katherine Carruth on recently passing her A-Surface certification exam from the NC Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board. To obtain this certification, Katherine attended a week-long school where she studied and was tested on a variety of topics including pumps, instrumentation, bacteriology, iron and manganese removal, corrosion control, lab procedures, disinfection, and more.

Althea Wooten called to compliment Justin Oakes, Gas Service Worker, on his help with a gas leak investigation at her home. She acknowledged him for his great service and referred to him as very kind, patient, and excellent at his job.
Mike Folin with Farrior and Sons sent a letter commending a crew from Water Resources on their hard work and professionalism as they moved a client’s water meter during undesirable circumstances. The crew included Pipe Crew Leader Randy Beamon; Pipe Layers Ramsey Covington and Cody Cratt; and Equipment Operators Tracy Colville and Michael Silverthorne. “It is refreshing to work with men of this caliber these days,” he wrote. “Teamwork is a blessing, and these men were a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when you work together.”
Perry Safran with the Safran Law Offices of Raleigh wrote to compliment Staff Support Specialist Carolyn Jones. He described Carolyn as friendly and efficient, and was grateful for her courteous and professional welcoming.
Mr. Bland called to thank John Roebuck, Water Resources Systems Maintenance Crew Leader, and Alvin Davis, Pipe Layer, for “doing an awesome job” repairing a water meter at Mr. Bland’s daughter’s home.
Robert O’Conner sent a thank you note complimenting Customer Contact Representative Robin Wyrick on her help. “You made a hard time much better with your hard work and efficiency,” he wrote.
