Keith Stancil Retires
Electric Overhead Service Crew Leader Keith Stancil has retired after 25 years of service with GUC. Keith began his utility career in 1982 doing contract work for Stackhouse, now MasTec, and joined Greenville Utilities in 1999 as an Overhead (OH) Construction Crew Leader. He has also been a Trouble Truck Crew Leader.
As an OH Service Crew Leader, Keith led the crew that is part of the Underground Section of the Electric Department. This crew installs, services, and repairs both overhead and underground lines for new and existing developments and projects, commercial and residential.
During his time with and prior to GUC, Keith went on approximately 20 different mutual aid trips. GUC is part of a network of public power systems that have mutual aid agreements designed to help each other during urgent situations such as recovery from major storms.
Keith has also competed in state and national lineman rodeos over the years, bringing home several trophies. A few years ago, he took a step back from competing and helped with training our rodeo teams.
“I’ve enjoyed working here and training a lot of these guys over the years,” Keith said. “There are a lot of goodhearted people at GUC supporting each other when they can.”
Keith and his wife, Anita, live in Ayden. Their daughter, Bailey, is finishing up college for early childhood development and expecting her first child, a daughter. He also has two sons, Chris and Brandon, and two grandsons.
In retirement, Keith looks forward to attending more ECU football games, golfing, traveling, playing the drums, and doing some storm assessment and electrical contract work when time allows.
Keith, good luck in retirement. We wish you the very best!
