GUC employees wrote 400 handwritten notes to encourage, support, and offer connection to Meals on Wheels participants who may be isolated from the community and their families.

“A simple greeting may seem small, but your message carries warmth, hope, and the powerful reminder that someone cares. Each message is more than ink on paper – it’s the gift of connection,” said Jessica Hardy, Account Auditor IV and United Way Committee Co-Chair .

The United Way Committee sent out a request to employees across GUC to help with this initiative, and the response did not disappoint.

“It was really awesome to see how much our employees enjoyed doing this, and how excited they were to write these cards for the Meals on Wheels recipients,” said GUC United Way Committee Chair Branson Rogers, Gas Engineer I and United Way Chair.

United Way of Pitt County supports organizations like the Pitt County Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program that provides not only a hot meal, but also welfare check-ins and companionship to seniors.

Our United Way Committee is also aiming to raise $40,000 to financially support other United Way programs, including Meals on Wheels.

Secretary to the General Manager and United Way of Pitt County Chair Lou Norris, said there are people on the waitlist to enroll in the Meals on Wheels program, which is why fundraising support and volunteer involvement goes a long way to improving the lives of the people United Way serves.

UWPC’s focus on essentials is geared around supporting local programs that provide resources to meet people’s basic needs. That includes access to food, safe housing, and crisis management and development of crisis management skills.
