Our Water Resources staff made us look good at the NC One Water Annual Conference and competitions in the first week in November. They competed against utilities from around the state in events that display their skills in safely providing reliable service to our customers.
Hydrant Hysteria is NC One Water’s fast-paced competition that measures a team’s ability to completely assemble a utility hydrant as quickly and accurately as possible. Teams comprised of two competitors and one coach compete head-to-head in a race against the clock for the fastest assembly time.
Our Water Treatment Plant’s team, Barrel Boys, competed for the third time and made it to the final round this year, finishing in 2nd place overall. Congratulations to Maintenance Mechanics Matthew Clark and Tripp Morgan and Water Quality Specialist Luke Hagee on this accomplishment.
NC One Water also hosts an annual Pipe Tapping event. This is a competition of skill in which teams compete for the best time in opening a cement-lined, ductile iron pipe and installing a tap. Teams consist of three members plus a coach.
Water Resources Systems Operations/Maintenance Crew Leaders Corbin Congleton and Kyle Veneski, and Water Systems O/M Technicians Hayden Hardy and Patrick Smith made up GUC’s “Tapped Out” team. Congratulations to the team on taking 2nd place during their second year of competing!
NC One Water, our state association for the Water Environment Federation and American Waterworks Association, provides water and wastewater education, training, and service in an effort to protect public health and the environment.
