The Board of Commissioners meeting began with six recognitions. The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge Executive Director Holly Garriott visited the board to recognize GUC as the Community Partner of the Year and to thank GUC for all its support (details here). The Finance Department was recognized for earning four awards for budget-related documents and purchasing (details here). The Gas Department was also recognized for earning a Carolinas Public Gas Association’s T.R.U.S.T. award (details here).
The Board approved a prepay agreement for nearly a fifth of GUC’s annual gas supply. The agreement with Public Energy Authority of Kentucky provides GUC with a discount when purchasing roughly 19% of our natural gas for the next 30 years. This will yield a projected savings of more than $8.2 million over the life of the contract. When combined with the two other similar agreements GUC already has in place, customers will save about $21.7 million over the course of all three contracts.
