Oyster Roast

As is tradition at Greenville Utilities, Public Information managed to capture many of our employees spreading holiday cheer throughout the community these past few weeks!

Energy Services Team Lead Jonathan Sergeant represented Customer Relations and donated GUC blankets to the Pitt County Senior Center to distribute to some of our senior customers this winter.

Finance held a very successful departmental food drive. They collected over 350 cans of food totaling 334 pounds – enough to provide 278 meals for families in need right here in the community. To add some extra excitement to the drive, an employee generously donated two Electric Department Oyster Roast tickets and a $40 Visa gift card to give away as prizes. For every five cans donated, participants received an entry into the drawing, sparking some friendly competition and inspiring an extra dose of giving. All donations were delivered to the Pitt County Food Bank, where they will help support local families throughout the holiday season.

The Electric Department held its annual oyster roast on December 10th to raise money for local families needing a little extra help during the holidays. GUC employees, retirees, vendors, and guests were invited to purchase "all you can eat" oysters and shrimp caught fresh along the North Carolina coast. This is the 24th year the Electric Department has held the Oyster Roast. The department also raises funds in a variety of ways throughout the year for this cause, culminating in a final fundraising push with the oyster roast.

Water Resources adopted a family with three children whose names they received from the Salvation Army. Each child has gift tags with their wish. Department employees purchased items from the tags and brought the unwrapped items to be placed under the department tree for delivery just in time for Christmas. This is the 27th year they have adopted a family.

For the 21st year in a row, employees from throughout GUC also contributed unwrapped toys to the Salvation Army’s Operation Santa Claus program. Greenville Fire and Rescue collected our toy donations on December 10th to take to Salvation Army.

What a great way to wrap up the year by getting into the spirit of giving during the holidays!  Thank you to everyone who contributed, encouraged others to give, or helped spread the word.
