Beginning Thursday, January 15th, Greenville Utilities’ on-site Health Clinic is offering a 6-month pilot program that focuses on employees’ mental health needs. Every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. a licensed clinical counselor will be accepting appointments at the Clinic.
Director of Human Resources Richie Shreves said, “The holiday season can be difficult for many people, so offering this service early in the year felt like the right timing. It brings another valuable, easily accessible resource to our on-site Clinic, giving employees convenient mental health support without long wait times.”
“A core value at GUC is that our employees are our most valuable resource. Expanding the Clinic’s services to include mental health care reflects GUC’s commitment to supporting employees’ total wellbeing,” Richie said. “When stress is reduced, employees are better able to focus and work safely.”
Operations Support Manager Kevin Keyzer highlighted mental health matters when it comes to safety and exposures.
“Everyone doesn’t have a mental illness, but we all have mental health,” he said.
“A person’s ability to focus plays a major role in controlling exposures for themselves and others. Each person has a capacity to handle a certain load, both physically and mentally. Observing someone struggling with well-being is often difficult; asking for help isn’t always easy, and finding help can be a challenge. It’s re-assuring to see GUC recognize this need and the clinic piloting a potential solution.”
To make an appointment with the Clinic’s new licensed clinical counselor (for yourself or a covered family member), call the Clinic at 252-329-2167. If utilization during the 6-month pilot period supports the need for this service, services may continue beyond the pilot period.
