Greenville Fire & Rescue Tour Water Treatment Plant
Our Water Treatment Plant (WTP) provides tours for more than 170 visitors each year. The last week of January, they hosted 18 special tours over a three-day period for 100 Greenville Fire & Rescue (GFR) personnel.
Staff gave GFR the same tour they give to all groups that come through the Plant but with a focus on overall safety, chemical safety, and confined spaces on site. GFR teams were shown where all FDCs (fire department connections) are located, where and what types of chemicals are stored, the best ways to get around the entire WTP facility, and any potential challenges that could be addressed.
“We have a strong partnership with GFR, and tours like this help keep the lines of communication open both ways so that we can better assist each other,” said WTP Facility Manager Julius Patrick. “One example of us being able to help them is that we can turn on another pump to help boost water pressure if they are battling a large fire out in their service area.”
Julius and his team do a lot of tours and training with GFR. This spring, their teams plan to come back out to the WTP to do confined space training.
