Kristen Jarman, Staff Support Specialist II, wears many different hats at Greenville Utilities. Originally from Wappinger Falls, New York, she joined the GUC Family in 2010 as a Customer Service Representative in the Customer Relations Department. In 2012, Kristen began working in the General Manager's Office (GMO).
In her job, Kristen provides administrative support that includes assisting with Board of Commissioners meeting preparation and agendas, records management, and directing inquiries and visitors to appropriate staff. In addition, she handles travel arrangements for GMO and other key staff, balances office purchase card statements, and designs materials for interdepartmental programs and special projects.
A graduate of Western Connecticut State University, Kristen majored in meteorology. "I always wanted to be a weather girl," Kristen said. "I guess you can say I caught the weather bug from my older brothers. During storms and blizzards, they would build a fort in the living room by the big window so we could watch the action roll by. I especially loved watching blizzards!"
After graduation, Kristen moved down south to be with her parents who had moved to North Carolina a few years earlier. As it turns out, she landed a job in an industry that picks up the pieces after storms. And Kristen loves her job at GUC. "I like the people I work with, and I like that I've been able to work first with our external customers and now mostly with internal customers. Everyone says GUC is a family and it really is."
Kristen also enjoys spending time with her real family, and it's a large one: seven brothers and sisters, 22 nieces and nephews, five brothers-in-law, and four sisters-in law. She looks forward to spending time with them when they get the chance to come visit, and vice versa. "We go to the beach a lot with my family," Kristen said. "We normally visit the Nags Head area, and try to do it every year, but of course it's hard to coordinate trips with such a large family."
Kristen is a real social butterfly and enjoys the simple pleasures in life. She and her new husband, Matthew, are on a Monday night trivia team together and also enjoy ECU games and tailgating. "I like hanging out with our friends," she said.
She and Matthew love to travel as well. They take at least one trip with friends each year to the mountains and more trips when time allows. In fact, being in the New England area is something Kristen misses. "I love travelling north to see family and friends."
Kristen also enjoys going to NASCAR races. Something she admits she thought she'd never get into. "My husband got me into NASCAR. He's taken me to a bunch of races, and it's really something incredible to see in person," she said.
Meanwhile, back at the office, Kristen stays busy in the General Manager's Office making sure management operations are as efficient as possible.
Kristen may not have become a weather girl, but she loves the people who have made GUC her home away from home. "Everyone comes together, and I just enjoy coming to work each day," she said.
