Kevin Smith, 25 years

Kevin Smith recently celebrated 25 years of service with GUC. Kevin started out at GUC as a Laboratory Technician II at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) before obtaining his current position as a WWTP Operator III. As an Operator, he continuously monitors pumping rates and all aspects of the biological treatment process, collects samples from different points in the treatment system for laboratory testing and analyses, and makes rounds every two hours to check the various stages of the treatment process. The information operators collect is entered in the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, which is the heartbeat of the plant and tracks the trends at the WWTP. "Knowing that my work helps protect the environment is important to me," said Kevin. "It's great to work at a company like GUC." Kevin and his wife, Louisa, have two children: 17-year-old son, Nicholas and 15-year-old daughter, Cameron. Kevin likes to spend his free time with family, mostly at the kids' sporting events.
