Melvin Foreman Retires

September 28, 2017

Melvin Foreman, Gas Service Worker Senior, recently retired after 23 years with Greenville Utilities. Melvin began his career at GUC in Water Resources and moved to his current position in the Gas Department in 2001. He primarily met with customers to turn on their gas service, unlock gas meters, light pilot lights, and resolve any gas leaks or other problems they may have.

Melvin said the thing he's enjoyed most over the years is helping customers. "I've really enjoyed meeting and helping customers," he said. "Sometimes they aren't familiar with natural gas, and I like being able to show them how to use their service and stay safe." He also has enjoyed the friendships he's made at GUC. "I've really been impacted by you all and I appreciate that," he said during his retirement luncheon. "I encourage everyone to please remember to look for the good in everything and everyone."

Melvin and his wife, Marjorie, have been married for 44 years and have three grown children, Melvin Jr., Michael, and Mikelya. They also have four grandsons, Devon, Aaron, Justin, and Jaylen. In retirement, Melvin plans to do a lot more of what he loves most: fishing, volunteering in the community, spending time with his family, and remaining active in the congregation at Holly Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

We wish you the very best in retirement, Melvin!
