Troy Perkins Awarded for Outstanding Service

November 30, 2017

Water Resources Systems Superintendent Troy Perkins received several national and state honors on November 14th from the North Carolina American Water Works Association and the Water Environment Association (NC AWWA-WEA).

Troy was inducted into the nationally recognized NC Chapter of 5S, also known as the "Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers." The Five S Society honors those in the wastewater field who have made a particular contribution to the industry. Only a few members are selected each year for membership in this prestigious group.

Along with being inducted into the 5-S Society, Troy was chosen to be the 2017 recipient of two prestigious awards. He received the Donald Francisco Educator of the Year Award for the NC AWWA-WEA and he also received the Arthur Sidney Bedell Award for extraordinary personal service to a member association.

The Donald Francisco Educator of the Year Award was established in 2003. This award is given annually to a member who demonstrates outstanding service to NC AWWA-WEA and the industry through education and training of water and wastewater professionals.  In addition to having served as Chair of the NC AWWA-WEA Collection and Distribution School Committee (as well as one of the section/grade coordinators), Troy has been an instructor for many years in each of the three annual schools conducted across the state for individuals seeking knowledge and certifications in the water distribution and wastewater collection fields.

The Arthur Sidney Bedell Award was established in 1948 to acknowledge exceptional personal service to the industry. This award acknowledges extraordinary personal service by a Water Environment Federation (WEF) member. It's based on their contributions to organizational leadership, administrative service, membership activity, and stimulation of technical functions.

"Receipt of these honors all in the same year is truly an exceptional accomplishment," said Steve Porter, GUC Water Resources Systems Engineer. "In addition to being a great personal honor for Troy, it is also a great reflection upon our Water Resources Department and GUC for its dedication to continual improvement of the water and wastewater industry and the people who serve the public all across North Carolina."

Congratulations to Troy on his achievements and representing Greenville Utilities!
